Youth Council for Northern Ireland - Training Curriculum


Youth Work Training Board

The Youth Work Training Board is a sub-committee of the Youth Council. It provides a forum wherein representatives of recognised agencies involved in the training of youth workers - both part-time and full-time, voluntary and statutory - come together to share ideas, promote good practice, and support and develop youth work training at all levels in Northern Ireland.


Functions (currently under review)

(i) To encourage the initiation of appropriate training where necessary.
(ii) To promote development of good practice throughout the service.
(iii) To evaluate existing training and develop strategies to meet future needs.
(iv) To validate and accredit training courses and processes, for part-time youth workers, which shall be recognised throughout Northern Ireland.
(v) To recognise training validated by other bodies which the Training Board considers appropriate.
(vi) To co-ordinate the overall training being offered to the greater advantage of the total service, including the publication of available courses.
(vii) To compile a register of personnel approved to tutor at appropriate levels.
(viii) To collate and disseminate appropriate information to all training agencies.
(ix) To organise conferences and seminars as appropriate.
