This is a research based
publication, produced in partnership with Save the Children Northern Ireland,
under the auspices of the Carnegie Young People Initiative (CYPI). CYPI aims
to improve the quality and increase the breadth of young people's participation
in public decision making through research, evaluation and the development of
standards. CYPI instigated a series of studies in Scotland, Wales, Northern
Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, Taking the Initiative forms one
of these studies. CYPI have also published a composite report of the studies,
and aim to publish an update to this report in the Summer of 2002.
Taking the Initiative is based on a quantitative survey of 130 organisations from across the Education, Voluntary/Community, Health and Local Government sectors in Northern Ireland, and also includes twelve case studies of practice from these sectors.
