Youth Council for Northern Ireland - Research

Consultations with Young People

The Youth Council interacts with, and elicits the views of, young people in a number of ways, aiming ultimately to enable young people to make informed responses to policy issues. Where relevant, Council responses to public consultations are informed by the views of young people, (for example Council consulted with young people when forming a response to the recent consultation on a Commissioner for children).

On occasions the Youth Council has published reports from consultative events. Published reports include:

q Youth in Democracy (an event in 1999 at which over 100 young people engaged in direct dialogue with members of the Northern Ireland Assembly)
q Shaping Our Future : a response by young adults (two conferences at which over 600 young people presented their views on regional development)

Copies of these reports are available free of charge on request.
